Past Projects

In the last 11 years we have worked toward two aims: 1) to help build homes for needy families who lost their homes during the war, and 2) pay the annual costs for student to attend school. We built three homes during that time, and provides the funding for over 100 students per year to attend school.

These projects are part of our past. Housing has stabilized, and last year the government began providing for the education of all of the children of Sierra Leone.

However, now the primary obstacle to education for children is distance. For many students the distance is a hurdle that stands in the way of a quality education. Therefore, our aim has shifted…

Our New Focus

Dominic’s Dream
Dominic’s father, Kaimba, was an extraordinary man. You may have already read his story here. Having sacrificed everything, with grace, for his children, Dominic has a dream to build Motema Village’s very own school, and to honor his father by naming it after him.

Status of this Dream
Last year we raised three times more at our annual fundraiser than any previous year. We are a little more than halfway toward the original estimate of $50,000 for this school.

Already, 64 acres of land has been donated to the cause by the paramount chief of Nimikor Chiefdom, the local authorities and the chiefs of Motema! An architect who is a past student of Dominic at Lake Oswego High School, is donating their work designing the four-classroom school building.

We expect that for the foreseeable future, our fundraising efforts will be directed toward raising funds : 1) to cover the costs of constructing the school, 2) to help subsidize school supplies for children, 3) to sustain the costs of maintenance & caregiving of the property, and 4) paying the salary of some of the teachers (b/c the government doesn’t fund teacher salaries until a new school has proven its sustainability for three years.
